Dianna,
You might remember that I'm <name redacted> dad. We met several
years ago. I've been told that you have some questions for me about the
community bond committee in Eanes, a survey concerning bond related
matters, and my business relationship with Darren Allman (the AD at the
high school). How can I help you?

Hello David,
Thank you for your email message and your offer to clarify. I am trying
to understand how all of the lack of transparency (around both the bond
committee work and the phone survey) serves the district's children.
Eanes ISD retained a private attorney and took legal action to withhold
documents related to the CBAC and the proposed bond from the public. As
CBAC Chair, however, you had access to this information that the
district claimed was proprietary. Then you created and conducted a phone
survey that you claim is personally proprietary. Can you explain the
discrepancy between the fact that you served as chair of a bond
committee that the district claimed was "part of the governmental body"
with special right of access to proprietary district information and
your claim that the results of the phone survey are now held back as
private. In addition to sharing your clarification with the community
via www.keepeanesinformed.com, if you wish, I am happy to post the
survey results and the Power Point presentation that you presented
during the May 10, 2010 board meeting. I look forward to hearing back
from you.
Thank you,
Dianna
1. Who contributed to the cost of the survey and who solicited the
funds for the survey?
2. Did Nola Wellman ask you to do the survey and if so, when did she
make that request?
3. Did any board members contribute to the development of the survey
questions?
4. How was the sample demographic determined and who assisted in that
process?
5. Board members asked if they could review the entire survey results
and you declined. Can you provide an explanation for your hesitancy to
release the full results?
6. Do you plan to release the full results of the survey and if so,
when?
7. Who had reviewed the full results of the survey by May 10, 2010 and
who has reviewed the full results of the survey to date?
8. When was your business relationship with Coach Allman disclosed to
Nola Wellman and/or Jim Strickland and by whom?

Dianna,
I'm happy to answer your questions, but I think it would be more
productive to talk in person. Email is not a very efficient way to have
a conversation. I'm available most days during the week.

David,
Thank you for the message. In this case, for the purpose of answering
these questions as you offered, I think written communication is best. I
plan to post the questions and your responses on
www.keepeanesinformed.com and therefore, it is especially important to
me that the information you provide is communicated exactly as you wish.
I hope that you will take this opportunity to use my site as a venue to
clarify these issues for the community. I also hope that you will agree
to post the phone survey results and Power Point that you presented on
the site as well.
Regards,
Dianna

Dianna,
I believe that each of your questions have already been asked and
answered in public forums, which is why I offered to meet you. It seems
that you are seeking further clarification.
As you know, the 30 person committee gave
recommendations to the Trustees in early November and then disbanded. I
can't speak for everyone on the committee, but I thought the process was
very transparent. When the committee lacked the knowledge to deal with
any issues, we expanded the committee to get relevant expert volunteers
from the community. The Trustees have been deliberating now for 7
months since the committee reported, and I believe were considering a
significantly larger bond than the committee recommended. I think that
the survey has helped the Trustees reconsider the scope of any bond
offering, and I hope it has been useful to them.
Our children have had fantastic academic,
athletic & fine arts experiences in Eanes. Lauren & I are hoping that
the next generation of kids will have the same or better opportunities,
and we've committed our time, energy and resources to that goal. If
there are areas that you think are not being well addressed, we'd love
to help where we can.
Kind regards,
